About this deal

Mochi is grilled (or fried or toasted) until it puffs up and lightly browns on the outside, leaving you with a crispy skin and a chewy interior.

Space the cut mochi out in a container, cover lightly, and refrigerate for one to two days to let the mochi harden. In 2015, it was reported that according to the Tokyo Fire Department – which responds to choking cases – more than 100 people were hospitalised per year for choking on mochi in Tokyo alone. This hearty noodle dish involves adding thin slices of kirimochi to udon noodles in a flavorful broth.

For sweet dishes, you can eat with anko (red bean paste), kinako (roasted soybean flour), and black sesame seeds. You can find it in soup, deep-fried as a snack, on sticks in a yakitori-ya, grilled up and drizzled with miso, in okonomiyaki, takoyaki, and the list goes on. Glutinous rice is nearly 100% [35] composed of amylopectin and almost completely lacks its counterpart, amylose, in its starch granules. This dish involves making sushi rolls by wrapping seaweed around kirimochi and dipping it in a sauce of your choice before chewing. Soy sauce and sugar and kinako and sugar are probably the two most common yakimochi toppings in Japan, but I’ll list some fun fusion ones too!

Spray non-stick cooking spray to a frying pan set over medium high heat and fry until mochi begins to puff up and create a golden brown layer on top. Rice crackerscome in various sizes, shapes (squares, rectangular, round, ball), and flavors (usually savory but sometimes sweet). You could mix the soy sauce and sugar and drizzle it over the mochi and then wrap it in a strip of nori, sprinkle the mochi with sweet kinako powder, or top the rice cakes with a spoonful or two of anko. One of the more popular traditional applications of kirimochi is isobe yaki (baked mochi with seaweed). To boil kirimochi, lay it in a saucepan, put cold water so that it completely covers the kirimochi, the deeper the better, and turn on the heat. And although people overseas associate it with sweet foods like ice cream mochi and sweet mochi snacks, it’s actually eaten as a savory food in Japan, as well. He found out I used to play the classical guitar, and recommended me to listen to Kazuhito Yamashita(山下和仁), he said the guy could do tremelo with his pinky finger!
